Mark Morsch

Vice President of Technology

Mark L. Morsch is the co-inventor of the LifeCode Natural Language Processing (NLP) engine with three patents on NLP technology for computer-assisted coding (CAC). He serves as vice-chair of the HIMSS Health Story Project and was co-chair of the AHIMA-sponsored CAC Summit in 2011 and 2012. Mr. Morsch is an author and speaker on the effective use of NLP in healthcare and has over 20 years of experience developing NLP solutions. Morsch is also an AHIMA-approved ICD-10 trainer was named an Optum Fellow in 2012.  He holds Master of Science and Bachelor of Science degrees in electrical engineering from Clarkson University.

Derrick Walker

Associate Director of Revenue Cycle Provider Solutions

Derrick Walker has been with Optum360 since 2014. In his current role as an Associate Director, Derrick maintains close relationships with end-user clients across the country, as well as Optum product management and development teams to assist with the guidance of enhancements to individual modules and applications related to revenue cycle management. He also functions as a subject matter expert for the Provider Consulting Practice.

Prior to joining Optum360, Derrick spent the last 13 years working for Deloitte Consulting, Accretive Health, and Stockamp & Associates implementing end-toend transformations and large scale managed service engagements. He assisted more than 40 hospitals, large integrated delivery networks and physician practices with revenue cycle improvement initiatives. Additionally, he is an active member of the National Association of Health Services Executives (NAHSE) promoting the advancement and development of minority health care leaders, and elevating the quality of health care services rendered to minority and underserved communities.

Doug Clovis

Vice President, Revenue Cycle Consulting

Doug is the National Solution Leader for Revenue Cycle in Provider Consulting for Optum360. With more than 20 years of experience in the health care industry, he brings a record of success with improving customer operations that maximize effectiveness and efficiency of people processes and technology. Currently, Doug’s responsibilities include leading a team of consultants focused on revenue cycle engagements based on improving the client’s financial operations using Optum360 expertise and advanced technology.

Doug earned his degree in economics from the University of Missouri. He is a member of the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), and the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS).

Lisa Walter

Director of Revenue Cycle and HIM Services

Lisa Walter, RHIA, is a Director in the Revenue Cycle Services practice of Optum360. She has more than 30 years of experience in the health care industry. Lisa is responsible for leading revenue cycle and health information management process improvement solutions. Prior to joining Optum360, Lisa was Vice President of HIM Services at Conifer Health Solutions, and an Associate Vice President of Revenue Cycle Consulting Services at Dell Services (formerly Perot Systems). Lisa holds bachelor’s degrees from The Ohio State University and John Carroll University. She also holds an AHIMA certification as a Registered Health Information Associate. Lisa resides in North Carolina.

Brian Potter, PhD

Senior Director, NLP Innovation

Brian Potter coordinates development teams in the application of Optum360’s underlying NLP technologies to new domains and products, and in the extension of Optum360’s CAC solutions to ICD-10. He has 20 years’ experience in the development of linguistic and NLP technologies in private industry and at the Navy Center for Applied Research in Artificial Intelligence. His NLP focus has included computer-assisted coding (CAC), semantic search, text analytics, machine translation, e-mail auto-response, and human-computer interfaces. Mr. Potter holds a PhD in linguistics from UCLA.

John Hickey

Vice President, Consulting Business Development

John has over 18 years of experience in the healthcare industry in a variety of hospital-based and vendor roles. Prior to Optum, John served in implementation consulting, client management and sales/delivery roles for a large consulting firm and a major healthcare IT vendor. He has conducted and led over 60 consulting engagements including; IT implementations, health system strategic plans, and operation improvement/process redesign efforts and has an extensive understanding of hospital, ambulatory, and physician practice operations and practical use of IT in these venues.

John has Masters of Health and Business Administration from Saint Louis University. He has solid knowledge of the healthcare business and technology market. His experience includes variety of areas including IT strategic planning, healthcare revenue cycle, IT capital and operating budgeting, IT requirements, implementation planning, and vendor contracting and negotiation.

Deena Kerr

Director, ICD-10 Education

With more than 15 years of experience in the health care information technology field, Deena Kerr has dedicated the past two years to ICD-10 education as part of the Optum360 consulting team. Her expertise includes organizational ICD-10 transitions, ICD-10 education strategies, system selection, design and development, implementation, conversions, upgrades and the management of integrated systems.

In addition to being the ICD-10 Education Director, she is also the Associate Director on the Optum360 ICD-10 Provider Team.
