Tom Boehning

Chief Executive Officer

Tom Boehning leads collaboration across Optum360 with a focus on new growth opportunities and strategy development to drive modernization of the revenue cycle continuum for the health care industry. Under his leadership, Optum360 will focus on delivering accelerated value and innovation for the health care payer and provider communities. Boehning’s deep knowledge of the health care reimbursement space is based on his more than 25 years of experience in both the health care payer and provider markets.

Boehning most recently served as senior vice president and general manager for the FICS business within OptumInsight, a division consisting of clinical and connectivity solutions, as well as business process outsourcing services offerings. He guided the growth of FICS by consistently delivering high-quality solutions and distinct value to providers and payers across the industry. During his tenure with Optum, Boehning has led numerous clinical and revenue cycle businesses serving all trading partners.

Prior to joining Optum, Boehning was vice president and general manager of McKesson’s Group Practice Solutions business. He has held senior leadership positions with Automatic Data Processing’s Claims Solutions Division, and JPMorgan Chase’s Healthcare Division.

Boehning earned his undergraduate degree in economics, and an MBA from Pennsylvania State University’s Smeal College of Business.

Paul Emerson

Chief Operating Officer

Paul Emerson leads operations for Optum360, ensuring the company’s processes and infrastructure support our growth and our clients’ requirements. With more than 15 years of leadership in the health care industry, Emerson has deep experience building organizational capabilities to deliver on strategic goals.

Emerson most recently served as chief financial officer for OptumInsight™, where his responsibilities included accounting and reporting, budgeting, financial planning and analysis, regulatory, investment decision and business risk management. He also oversaw the pricing and underwriting functions for all Optum businesses. Before joining UnitedHealth Group, Emerson was vice president of finance for Cardiac Science, a global manufacturer and distributor of cardiac-related medical devices. He also spent several years working with health care clients as part of Arthur Andersen’s audit and business advisory practice.

Emerson is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.

Josh Goldman

Chief People Officer

Josh Goldman leads the design, development and implementation of effective human resources strategies, processes and services that support the purpose, goals and culture of Optum360. He and his team are responsible for attracting, retaining and developing talent, successfully integrating new client staff, maintaining an engaged workforce, shaping company culture and ensuring the delivery of quality human resources services.

With more than 20 years of experience, Goldman has served in leadership roles across health care, financial services and business services industries. Prior to joining Optum360, he served as chief human resources officer at Conifer Health Solutions, and most recently led their client transition management and integration functions. Previous experience includes human resources leadership positions at ORIX USA, Alliance Data Systems and Texas Instruments.

Goldman has a Master of Science in industrial-organizational psychology from the University of North Texas and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a Six Sigma Green Belt and a certified Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). He is a member of the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM) and Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA).

Benjamin Goodman

Chief Financial Officer

Ben Goodman leads the development and evaluation of short- and long-term financial objectives and oversees efforts that ensure the financial health of the business.

Goodman’s previous financial experience includes the role of chief financial officer for the Optum provider business and a senior leadership role in corporate development for the company, where he provided direction on the implications of strategic and financial transactions. During his tenure, Optum completed more than 40 transactions worldwide.

Prior to joining Optum, Goodman focused on mergers and acquisitions, integration and financial risk mitigation strategies at Marsh and McLennan. He holds a master of business administration, with a concentration in finance, from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Saint John’s University in Minnesota.

Todd Gustin

SVP & General Manager, Revenue Cycle Technology Solutions and Professional Services

Todd Gustin is responsible for Optum360 Revenue Cycle Technology Solutions and Professional Services business segments. He oversees the entire portfolio of revenue cycle technology offerings, including products, services, consulting and content. Gustin is also responsible for client relationship processes and measurement programs that help ensure customer satisfaction and quality.

Gustin most recently served as a Vice President in Corporate Development, where he advised on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships and joint venture transactions, many of which now comprise Optum360. Prior to joining Optum, Gustin worked in technology investment banking, as Principal and Vice President in Piper Jaffray’s global investment banking group and previously with RBC Capital Markets.

Gustin holds a Master of Business Administration from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Colorado College.

Doug Hires

Senior Vice President, Strategic Client Relationships

Doug Hires is responsible for strategic client relationships for Optum360, collaborating with clients to ensure Optum360 successfully helps further their mission and business goals. He oversees the client management processes, service agreements and partnerships required to deliver value and results to clients.

With nearly 30 years of experience in the health care and information technology industries, Hires most recently was the chief strategy officer and executive vice president at Santa Rosa Consulting, Inc., where he was responsible for establishing and leading the Strategic Advisory Services Practice, which focused on strategic planning, technology, compliance, risk mitigation, performance improvement, business intelligence and advanced analytics. He also held executive roles in 3M’s Health Information Systems division, as vice president of U.S. sales and vice president and director of client services.

Hires has a master’s degree in music from North Texas State University and a bachelor’s degree in music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston. He is a frequent spokesperson in the industry and is a member of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS), Healthcare Finance Management Association (HFMA) and the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE).

Patricia Howard

Senior Vice President, Service Center Operations

As the senior vice president of Service Center Operations, Patricia Howard leads service delivery for Optum360’s discrete and end-to-end revenue cycle management services clients. She is responsible for all service center operations, financial performance and business plan success.

Howard has worked in the health care industry delivering exceptional service for more than 20 years. During her 18 years with Blue Cross Blue Shield, she was responsible for all facets of operations including claims, customer service, hospital and provider relationship management, hospital and physician accounts receivable management, training, quality, process and budget management. She most recently served as senior vice president with Magellan Health Services, leading Service Operations. Howard’s experience spans leadership roles in profit and nonprofit companies, and she has led both national and global teams of clinical and non-clinical professionals with a focus on providing excellent customer service and managing cost of care and operational efficiency initiatives.

A results-oriented leader, Howard has a strong background in process improvement, developing a Project Management Office (PMO) and implementing Lean Six Sigma practices. She has led several employee engagement initiatives to support overall satisfaction and quality service delivery.

Jennifer Igel

Vice President, Client Operations for Dignity Health

Jennifer Igel is responsible for revenue cycle management operations for Optum360’s Dignity Health client. This role includes oversight of service delivery operations for all aspects of the revenue cycle, including patient access, HIM and coding, and patient financial services.

Prior to joining Optum360, Igel held leadership positions at Dignity Health during her nine years with the health system, most recently as senior director of revenue services. She has deep expertise analyzing and auditing processes to identify opportunities to standardize and improve revenue cycle workflow, processes and practices. Igel also managed process redesign in all areas of the revenue cycle at Stockamp & Associates/Huron Consulting Group, Inc., improving financial performance for multiple provider clients.

Igel has a Master in Health Services Administration from Arizona State University and a Bachelor of Science in biology from Bowling Green State University.

Michael Landen

Senior Vice President of Revenue Cycle Solutioning

As senior vice president of revenue cycle solutioning, Michael Landen is responsible for revenue cycle solution design for large-scale acute care hospitals and health systems. Landen and the revenue cycle solution design team work with potential clients to evaluate the value proposition associated with the relationship and provide support through contracting and transition. He also oversees innovation execution, which includes taking strategic concepts from idea formation through commercialization.

Landen most recently served as a managing director in the revenue cycle practice at Huron Consulting Group, where he was responsible for sales and implementations of revenue cycle performance improvement projects. In his sales role, Landen was responsible for the development and execution of the Northwest Market Awareness campaign for Huron Consulting Group.

Landen holds a Master of Health Science with an emphasis in Health Finance and Management from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and Bachelor of Arts degrees in Health Science and Policy and Sociology from the University of Maryland.

Robert Power

Senior Vice President, Strategic Client Relationships

Robert Power is responsible for strategic client relationships for Optum360, collaborating with clients to ensure Optum360 successfully helps further their mission and business goals. He oversees the client management processes, service agreements and partnerships required to deliver value and results to clients.

As a strategic health care, finance and operations executive, Power’s previous roles include regional CFO for the North Shore-LIJ Health System and other leadership positions during his more than 10 years with North Shore-LIJ. He also served as vice president of finance for the St. Vincent Catholic Medical Center’s Brooklyn/Queens region. Power began his career at Ernst & Young in its health care audit division and has held financial roles at several other New York City academic medical centers.

Power has a Master of Business Administration in international business strategies and a Bachelor of Science in accounting. Power holds memberships in the Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA), American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE), American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

Daniel Roach, J.D.

Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel

Daniel Roach oversees the legal and compliance functions for Optum360. His major areas of responsibility include contracting and developing policies and procedures that ensure accurate clinical documentation, coding, billing and reimbursements for Optum360 clients.

Roach was formerly vice president of compliance and audit for Dignity Health, previously known as Catholic Healthcare West. He also spent 14 years as in-house counsel for Allina Health System in Minneapolis.

Roach has held numerous leadership positions with health care industry associations, including co-chair of the Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics and co-chair for the American Health Lawyers Association/Health Care Compliance Association annual Fraud and Compliance conference. He holds a JD with honors from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.
