Tom Boehning

Chief Executive Officer

Tom Boehning leads collaboration across Optum360 with a focus on new growth opportunities and strategy development to drive modernization of the revenue cycle continuum for the health care industry. Under his leadership, Optum360 will focus on delivering accelerated value and innovation for the health care payer and provider communities. Boehning’s deep knowledge of the health care reimbursement space is based on his more than 25 years of experience in both the health care payer and provider markets.

Boehning most recently served as senior vice president and general manager for the FICS business within OptumInsight, a division consisting of clinical and connectivity solutions, as well as business process outsourcing services offerings. He guided the growth of FICS by consistently delivering high-quality solutions and distinct value to providers and payers across the industry. During his tenure with Optum, Boehning has led numerous clinical and revenue cycle businesses serving all trading partners.

Prior to joining Optum, Boehning was vice president and general manager of McKesson’s Group Practice Solutions business. He has held senior leadership positions with Automatic Data Processing’s Claims Solutions Division, and JPMorgan Chase’s Healthcare Division.

Boehning earned his undergraduate degree in economics, and an MBA from Pennsylvania State University’s Smeal College of Business.

Paul Emerson

Chief Operating Officer

Paul Emerson leads operations for Optum360, ensuring the company’s processes and infrastructure support our growth and our clients’ requirements. With more than 15 years of leadership in the health care industry, Emerson has deep experience building organizational capabilities to deliver on strategic goals.

Emerson most recently served as chief financial officer for OptumInsight™, where his responsibilities included accounting and reporting, budgeting, financial planning and analysis, regulatory, investment decision and business risk management. He also oversaw the pricing and underwriting functions for all Optum businesses. Before joining UnitedHealth Group, Emerson was vice president of finance for Cardiac Science, a global manufacturer and distributor of cardiac-related medical devices. He also spent several years working with health care clients as part of Arthur Andersen’s audit and business advisory practice.

Emerson is a certified public accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting and finance from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.

Benjamin Goodman

Chief Financial Officer

Ben Goodman leads the development and evaluation of short- and long-term financial objectives and oversees efforts that ensure the financial health of the business.

Goodman’s previous financial experience includes the role of chief financial officer for the Optum provider business and a senior leadership role in corporate development for the company, where he provided direction on the implications of strategic and financial transactions. During his tenure, Optum completed more than 40 transactions worldwide.

Prior to joining Optum, Goodman focused on mergers and acquisitions, integration and financial risk mitigation strategies at Marsh and McLennan. He holds a master of business administration, with a concentration in finance, from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Saint John’s University in Minnesota.

Todd Gustin

Senior Vice President & General Manager, Revenue Cycle Technology Solutions and Professional Services

Todd Gustin is responsible for Optum360 Revenue Cycle Technology Solutions and Professional Services business segments. He oversees the entire portfolio of revenue cycle technology offerings, including products, services, consulting and content. Gustin is also responsible for client relationship processes and measurement programs that help ensure customer satisfaction and quality.

Gustin most recently served as a Vice President in Corporate Development, where he advised on mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, partnerships and joint venture transactions, many of which now comprise Optum360. Prior to joining Optum, Gustin worked in technology investment banking, as Principal and Vice President in Piper Jaffray’s global investment banking group and previously with RBC Capital Markets.

Gustin holds a Master of Business Administration from the Carlson School of Management at the University of Minnesota, and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Colorado College.

Scott Iverson

Chief Operating Officer

Scott Iverson is the chief operating officer of multiple OptumInsight businesses/products: Optum Data Exchange (ODX), Link, and most recently, Claims Integrity and Connectivity.

Iverson joined Optum in 2010 during the acquisition of Picis, which became Optum Clinical Solutions. He managed all aspects of this business and its suite of clinical applications — OR, ED and ICU provider solutions — until Picis was divested from Optum in 2015.

Iverson spent the first 10 years of his career with Accenture working in the high-tech sector. Prior to his work in health care, he specialized in providing big data technology, leading analytics and CRM solutions to all industries for American Express and Epiphany.

Michael Landen

Senior Vice President, Ambulatory Operations

Michael Landen leads operations for the ambulatory services business unit within Optum360. The ambulatory services business unit is focused on supporting hospital-based and independent physician groups to improve revenue cycle and practice operations to further their mission and business goals.

Landen has most recently served as the SVP of Revenue Cycle Solution Design for the acute care and ambulatory services business units. Michael has significant experience in revenue cycle management services operating through roles in consulting services and operations management with large health systems.

Landen holds a Master of Health Science with an emphasis in health finance and management from Johns Hopkins School of Public Health and Bachelor of Arts degrees in health science and policy and sociology from the University of Maryland.

Chris Martin

Vice President, Revenue Cycle Technology Professional Services

Chris Martin is the vice president of the Optum360 Revenue Cycle Technology (RCT) Professional Services business. Her team is responsible for providing technology delivery services, including sales support, deployment, product consulting, integration services and all aspects of client support services post deployment for the entire portfolio of technology solutions. Most recently, Ms. Martin’s team has been accountable for the delivery and support of a new-to-market; computer assisted coding technology, as well as the creation of a standardized performance management program for the Optum360 portfolio of revenue cycle technologies.

Ms. Martin joined Optum in 2010 through the acquisition of PICIS, a health care software company, where she was responsible for operations of the Revenue Management Solutions business. Prior to joining PICIS, Ms. Martin was the CFO and COO of LYNX Medical Systems since 2000. She was instrumental in positioning the company for sale on two successful transactions in 2005 and in 2007. Ms. Martin held various senior leadership positions across LYNX Medical Systems during her 16 years with the company, including overseeing outsourced services business and overseeing new product development and delivery. Prior to joining LYNX Medical Systems, Ms. Martin held various administrative positions at the University of Washington Medical Center.

Ms. Martin has a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Washington, Department of Economics and a master’s in business administration from the University of Washington Foster Business School.

Daniel Roach, J.D.

Chief Compliance Officer and General Counsel

Daniel Roach oversees the legal and compliance functions for Optum360. His major areas of responsibility include contracting and developing policies and procedures that ensure accurate clinical documentation, coding, billing and reimbursements for Optum360 clients.

Roach was formerly vice president of compliance and audit for Dignity Health, previously known as Catholic Healthcare West. He also spent 14 years as in-house counsel for Allina Health System in Minneapolis.

Roach has held numerous leadership positions with health care industry associations, including co-chair of the Society of Corporate Compliance & Ethics and co-chair for the American Health Lawyers Association/Health Care Compliance Association annual Fraud and Compliance conference. He holds a JD with honors from William Mitchell College of Law in St. Paul, Minnesota.

Kirk Schultz

Chief Operating Officer

Kirk Schultz is responsible for leading the Optum Executive Health Resources team, which provides medical necessity compliance solutions to more than 2,300 hospital clients.

Prior to this role, he served as chief administrative officer, leading Optum Executive Health Resources’ enabling functions, which included finance/accounting, recruiting, legal/contracts, human resources and business development. Previously, Kirk served as chief financial officer for OptumInsight Provider Solutions, where he led the finance and accounting team of 55 employees and was part of the leadership team that increased the group’s annual revenue to more than $1 billion.

Prior to joining Optum, Schultz held various financial leadership positions, including chief financial officer at Powermate Corporation, a standalone company with $400 million in annual revenue, and vice president/divisional CFO at Fiskars Brands Inc. Schultz has a Master of Business Administration in finance from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and holds a Bachelor of Science in finance from St. Cloud State University in Minnesota.

Dan Weaver

Chief of Staff

Dan Weaver coordinates all aspects of business activity on behalf of Optum360's CEO.  He coordinates the senior leadership team, ensuring the effective flow of information and facilitating related decision making.  Weaver organizes and prioritizes critical issues for the company while providing oversight and guidance to key programs and personally leading strategic initiatives.  With over 25 years of leadership in the health care and software industries, as well as the military, Weaver has broad expertise and experience with creating and shepherding high performance leadership teams.

Weaver most recently served as General Manager and Chief Operating Officer for OptumInsight’s Claim Integrity and Connectivity business, which includes Optum’s clearinghouse solutions, clinical editing technologies, and the groundbreaking Advanced Communication Engine (ACE), a strategic solution that helps all trading partners reduce administrative expenses and increases the economic efficiency of their processes by promoting commonality, continuity and transparency in the health care administrative data stream. During his tenure with Optum, Weaver has led numerous operations and technical teams to deliver a variety of payer, provider, and EDI trading partner solutions.

Prior to joining Optum, Weaver was a vice president of software engineering at PTC, a global technology provider of leading product manufacturing and product lifecycle management software. He has also held positions as a software consultant at Clientek, and served a combined 20 years as an Army and National Guard officer.

Weaver earned undergraduate degrees in Political Science from The Citadel and in Network Administration from the University of Minnesota.  He has earned graduate degrees in Human Relations from the University of Oklahoma and in Software Engineering from the University of St. Thomas in Minneapolis.

Ralph Wuebker

Chief Medical Officer

Dr. Ralph Wuebker serves as chief medical officer of Optum 360. In this role, Dr. Wuebker provides clinical leadership and works closely with hospital leaders to ensure strong utilization review, documentation and quality programs. Additionally, Dr. Wuebker oversees the Optum On-site Physician Advisor program. These expert UR physicians work on location at the hospital, interacting with the medical staff, nurses, administration, CDI and revenue cycle experts every day. These daily interactions and personal relationships ensure better teamwork, leading to more accurate documentation and thus improved outcomes.

Dr. Wuebker is an expert in CMS regulations, medical necessity compliance, utilization review, denials management, program integrity efforts and quality. He has been published in many prominent industry trade publications, including Report on Medicare Compliance, RACmonitor and Compliance Today. He is a respected source and contributor to industry discussion boards and blogs, and is a frequent speaker at industry conferences.

Dr. Wuebker has been with Optum since 2006, serving in various roles and leading many client-focused teams, including physician subject matter experts, nurse implementation, client management, research and development, consulting and special audits. Prior to joining Optum, Dr. Wuebker served as a hospitalist and instructor of medicine at Washington University School of Medicine, worked in private practice and served as medical director for a commercial insurance plan.

Dr. Wuebker earned his medical and bachelor’s degrees from the 6-year program at the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Medicine and Master of Business Administration degree from Washington University in St. Louis, MO.
